Appointment of Interim Chief Executive Officer for the National Environment Agency

Mr Wong Kang Jet will relinquish his appointment as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Environment Agency (NEA) with effect from 1 June 2026. Dr Benjamin Koh, currently the Deputy Secretary (Sustainability) in the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) will be appointed as the interim CEO of NEA from 1 June 2026.
Mr Wong Kang Jet will relinquish his appointment as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Environment Agency (NEA) with effect from 1 June 2026. Mr Wong will be appointed as Second Permanent Secretary (Home Affairs), Second Permanent Secretary (Information), Ministry of Digital Development and Information and Second Permanent Secretary (Cybersecurity), Prime Minister’s Office with effect from 1 June 2026.
Interim CEO Dr Benjamin Koh
Dr Benjamin Koh, currently the Deputy Secretary (Sustainability) in the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) will be appointed as the interim CEO of NEA from 1 June 2026. He will continue to serve as Deputy Secretary (Sustainability). The appointment of a new CEO will be announced in due course.
Contributions of Mr Wong Kang Jet
Mr Wong, 46, took on the role of CEO of NEA in 2023. During his tenure, Mr Wong contributed to the transformation of NEA by driving growth in emerging areas, modernising operations, and strengthening organisational culture. He drove innovative initiatives to extend Semakau Landfill's lifespan and reduce Waste-to-Energy plant emissions. He significantly expanded NEA's capabilities in the regulation of carbon credits and nuclear safety whilst delivering key public health milestones, including the expansion of Project Wolbachia and the successful implementation of the Year of Public Hygiene. He also oversaw improvements to public infrastructure within NEA’s purview, notably advancing the Hawker Centre Upgrading Programme 2.0 and commissioning the Mandai North Crematorium.
Mr Wong transformed NEA’s operations across key areas, including waste management and after-death services, driving efficiency and resilience. By driving digital transformation and AI adoption, he fostered innovation and elevated service delivery. A strong advocate for workplace safety, Mr Wong institutionalised a more robust safety culture in NEA. He also prioritised staff well-being, including through recognition initiatives and professional development opportunities.
