Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on Food Waste Statistics by Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment.
Question:
Ms Poh Li San: To ask the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment (a) what is the total amount of food waste disposed of in 2025 and what is the overall food waste recycling rate; and (b) of the food waste generated (i) what was the estimated proportion that was rescued and redistributed (ii) what proportion was valorised through treatment processes and (iii) what proportion was incinerated.
Answer:
Of the 790,000 tonnes of food waste generated in 2025, 18 per cent was recycled, while the remaining 82 per cent was disposed of and incinerated. Food that is rescued or redistributed is not reflected in our food waste statistics.
